A new video card and a new obsession

Friday, October 5th, 2007

I’ve recently been playing Valve’s Team Fortress 2, technically still in beta. So far in my experience, this is a beta on par with a google beta - i.e. a fully functional app that’s 99% working and completely awesome.
I’ve not experienced any of the more ‘beta’ like qualities yet - to me its been […]

YAQTRU

Monday, May 28th, 2007

That’s “Yet Another Quick T-Rex Update”.
The frame and body are totally constructed, the electronics are installed and placed, and the blades are balanced and installed. All that’s left is to tie down the wires, do a radio range-check, and track the blades. Technically I have to re-solder one battery pack […]

T-Rex enroute!

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Well, I finally broke down and got myself the big toy I’ve been looking at for a while. A T-Rex 450SE (v1, not the newest v2). It should be here tomorrow or Saturday, so hopefully I can put it together and head to the park for a maiden flight!

RC Helicopter Update

Monday, October 16th, 2006

I got my replacement RC Helicopter from ThinkGeek last week, and sure enough, it had the same problem. The bottom rotor wobbles heavily during flight, making forward flight nearly impossible. I RMA’ed it again, but this time just requested a refund.
On a similar note, since I did have a lot of fun with […]

My first Go tournament

Monday, October 9th, 2006

Yesterday I played at the MGA’s fall handicap tournament; it was my first Go tournmanent, and overall I had a really good time. I entered at 12 kyu (according to some recent recommendations placing me in the 10-12 range) and played 4 games:
The first was against a 19 kyu player, so I had to […]

Mass Go Club

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

Last night I went up to Davis Square to play at the Mass Go Club. Being an unfortunate sap with a job, I had to leave my apartment about 6:40 to go up there, and sat in a ton of traffic; in fact it took 60 minutes to travel all of 7 miles. […]

Adult toys

Monday, September 25th, 2006

From time to time I like to browse the catalogue over at ThinkGeek, as they tend to have stuff that makes me go “Whoa!” or generally smirk at the cube-warfare fantasies they perpetuate. I can certainly identify with some of them, but they always seem to lose their zeal in real life.
Now that I […]

Finally, a victory!

Friday, April 7th, 2006

Last night at the Go club, I finally beat one of the instructors. Mr. Takabi won the first game by 15 (I took 6 stones), but I won the 2nd by 15 (again, 6 stones).
This one was a long time coming. The best I had done previously was a 1 point loss. […]

Great night at the Go club

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

Its rare that I single out any one night at the Go club as particularly good, but tonight made me feel like I’m actually making progress with my game, and that my peers there have noticed.
I played 3 games tonight - one against a beginner where he took 7 stones. That game I lost, […]

Teaching Go at Barnes & Noble

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

Back in the end of February at the MoveOn retreat, somehow the topic of chess and games came up at one of our social dinners (maybe?). There I mentioned that I play Go, and Eli was interested in learning. Last night we met up at the Barnes & Noble on Union Square. […]
