The Big Move - A Belated Report

I’m now a solid 2 weeks late on this post describing Dori and my move from NYC up to Boston. Oh well, just goes to show how life doesn’t wait for you to get some free time.

First and above all other things, I must thank and praise Dori for the tremendous amount of work she did packing. Since I was working up until the day before the move, she did the lioness’ share of the packing, and really did a beautiful job. This move was the smoothest I’ve ever participated in, in part thanks to our preparedness, and because of the fact that we actually hired someone to do all the work. We were so prepared that for a good chunk of the time when the guys were loading up the truck, we were just sitting around, looking for stuff to do (and not finding any).

We hired FlatRate moving for the job, and they were fantastic. The crew we got were 3 guys who were extremely professional, respectful, and hard working. We tipped as well as we could, so hopefully they felt rewarded for their work. Lugging our stuff down three flights of tight NYC stairs is hard work, and there’s simply no way I’d have been able to do this without them. Luckily for them (and us), we’re on the first floor in our new place. They unloaded everything in practically 45 minutes - it was quite amazing, and we got started with the whirlwind of unpacking.

All in all, the move went really smoothly. Total damage included some chips on the frame of our ketuba and a drawer of my crappy old file cabinet bit the dust (it was partly broken anyway). And after making a phone call, we got a check to cover the repairs to the frame.

Since our move we’ve settled in quite nicely here. We had our cable hooked up on Monday, our new couch delivered on Tuesday, and almost all the boxes unpacked by Wednesday. Thursday I went back to work, and here we are!

[Aside: Since this is so late, I’m going to stop holding back in the hopes of editing / adding more, and just going to press on forward in my spare moments with stuff.]
