Genealogy, prep stage 2

I’ve made some progress on this project, though its still in the preparatory stages. I managed through a stroke of good luck to order the right cable to connect Dori’s camcorder to my Powerbook on the first try, I’ve successfully built Gramps, and I think the only two missing pieces now are a tripod and a script before I can start doing interviews. And the tripod I found on Amazon…

Combine this with the new scanner I’ve got, and I could potentially do a fully-digital family history. Imagine having a digital copy of every person’s birth certificate alongside their entries in the database!

Kinda exciting, in the ‘I’m the only person who’ll ever look at this’ sort of way.

PS - I’ll probably balk on the larger ‘archive of raw video’ issue, since its not economically feasible to store that much data, reliably, on a long-term scale. But who knows, disks are cheap…
